A diamond edge is typical of a Moroccan mosaic table. In addition to the decorative function, it also has a symbolic function: as stylized eyes (witch eyes), square diamonds are supposed to protect people from any kind of harm. The mosaic setters place a wide variety of patterns and ornaments into this frame. However, one thing is always the same: the glazed mosaic pieces are previously carved from the handcrafted Zellige tiles with a sharp-edged hammer. Each table top is purely handcrafted and therefore absolutely unique.
With the Ankabut Green mosaic table , the joints between the individual mosaic pieces are clearly visible. This is definitely intentional, because the craftsmen had the artfully woven web of a spider (Ankabut) in mind when designing it. Alternatively, the design is reminiscent of fireworks or a flower bed that flower lovers love. For the colors, the mosaicist chose subtle shades of green, blue and red. The black contours give the light flowers plasticity.
